Nina Simone gave a voice to the struggles and joys that not only she experienced, but that women then and now still experience. Success, even in the face of racial oppression, has left a legacy of empowerment that continues to influence creatives of the black community. Simone is such a crucial example of using your platform to advocate for progress, equality, and the recognition of unique talents across all socially constructed identifiers.
Come celebrate the songs and life of Nina Simone! If you have a song to share, poetry to read, or a story to share, this event is open to you.
